Credibility in the Ratings Game Too Much for GMA 7?

A few weeks ago, I read an article on a certain website regarding the television ratings game. According to the said website, a friend of the website's author said that ABS-CBN may have dominated the first half of 2014 but GMA 7 will have the upper hand throughout the second half of the year. What that person said about the network wars this year is completely inconceivable and disgraceful for me. He or she did not notice that there are many people on television and on social media, including myself, who believe that in the end 2014 will be another dominant year for the true number one television station in the Philippines. And that would be ABS-CBN. How can I say that, considering that programs on both networks are competing to gain composure in the ratings game? Well, let me tell you as a testament of what I have just said.

So far throughout the year, the Kapamilya network has been consistently dominating in the national TV ratings according to ratings providers Kantar Media and AGB Nielsen. Its performance exceeded GMA's so-called "strong" lead in Metro Manila and nearby areas. In fact, it dominated Nielsen's list of top 10 highest-rating final episodes of various dramas aired through the year, with the teen romantic comedy drama Got to Believe topping the said list. This proves that more and more Filipinos are beginning to watch the network's sleuth of high-caliber programs, from its world-class and high quality primetime dramas to popular entertainment programs that captured the hearts and minds of netizens.

What about GMA 7? I would have to admit that despite considering it as the worst television station in the Philippines, I commend the network for providing its own brand of groundbreaking programs that also captured the hearts of television viewers and netizens. But it does not change the fact that the only reason why GMA is still the most-watched TV station in the Metro is because it is supported and being watched by the poor people of the said area, a.k.a. The Squatters. Maybe the credibility of its ratings provider has gone on to the network's head and began bragging about being number one in Manila. Well, I do not like bragging about my sentiments about the network wars.

Here is an advice for all of you watching television: Make sure you choose what you are watching wisely, but do not watch programs on GMA 7 that does not need to be watched like anime, cartoons, and Filipino-dubbed Hollywood blockbusters. They are just too much.
