It's been more than ten years since GMA 7 gave us the most exciting New Year's Countdown party in Philippine television, and it becomes simply unstoppable. But this year is different. Because now the worst television station in the country has reasons to make this year's party better than the usual, considering that another major network is preparing for its own New Year's Countdown party.

Two Sunday Magazine Shows are Ten Years Old

Two Sunday night magazine shows are now celebrating their 10th year anniversary in Philippine television, namely ABS-CBN's Rated K and Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho on GMA 7. These two shows have been featuring the best of both worlds through the years - from the latest in current affairs to personalities that are making trends, as well as the best of life such as food trips, beauty and wellness tips, places to travel, and more. But when it comes to features and relevance, these rival shows are different.

GMA's Most Recent Big Dilemma is in its Primetime Grid

More Than Words on GMA 7
More Than Words starring Elmo Magalona and Janine Gutierrez will be premiering on November 17 on GMA 7 after 24 Oras. This is one of the biggest dilemmas that the network's primetime block will experience so far by the end of the year. (Photo courtesy of From The Tube via GMA)
GMA 7 has a lot of big dilemmas so far within the year, which includes the same old reasons why it is still the worst television station in the Philippines. But, it is not over for the Kapuso network. This is because the most recent dilemma that the network begins to experience is within its primetime programming.

The State of the Primetime TV Wars

Ilustrado

The respective launches of the historical drama Ilustrado and the Korean period drama Empress Ki is a strong and valid statement that GMA 7 is more desperate and very serious about conquering primetime in Philippine television over its rival network ABS-CBN. So far throughout the year, GMA has been known for its groundbreaking and heartwarming primetime shows that captivate many Filipino viewers. However, despite the success, many of its programs are still no match for the world-class, high-quality lineup of primetime dramas aired on the true number one television station in the Philippines.

GMA's Inability to Beat ABS-CBN on Sunday Nights

Sunday nights are very typical for the Filipino family. After a day of family fun and bonding, it is time for Filipinos to watch their favorite TV shows on their homes while eating and before they go to sleep. Many Filipino families would prefer watch shows aired on ABS-CBN rather than those on GMA 7. Although some of GMA's shows on Sunday nights are social media stars, their popularity on social media is not enough for them to outmatch the high-quality programming that the Kapamilya network has when it comes to the ratings game. In fact, it is one of the many reasons why GMA 7 is the worst station in Philippine television today.

Credibility in the Ratings Game Too Much for GMA 7?

A few weeks ago, I read an article on a certain website regarding the television ratings game. According to the said website, a friend of the website's author said that ABS-CBN may have dominated the first half of 2014 but GMA 7 will have the upper hand throughout the second half of the year. What that person said about the network wars this year is completely inconceivable and disgraceful for me. He or she did not notice that there are many people on television and on social media, including myself, who believe that in the end 2014 will be another dominant year for the true number one television station in the Philippines. And that would be ABS-CBN. How can I say that, considering that programs on both networks are competing to gain composure in the ratings game? Well, let me tell you as a testament of what I have just said.

Five Great Reasons Why I Hate GMA 7

GMA 7
GMA 7 is consistently the most-watched television station in Metro Manila, but not the number one TV station in the Philippines. (Photo Courtesy of PEP.ph)
Early this year, many Twitter followers call GMA 7 the worst television station in the Philippines because of the inconsistencies made in some of its news programs. This was one of the most talked-about trends on social media that kicked off 2014. Until now, there are many people who believe that GMA is still the worst television station in the country. It is unfortunate for the loyal followers of the said network who are reading this post that I am one of them. Seeing what is happening in the Philippine television industry through the years since the network wars began, I have finally came to realize that I hate GMA 7 more than what the Twitter followers said on their tweets.
