ABS-CBN's "It's Showtime" has successfully celebrated its 5th year anniversary throughout the month of October. Its performance in the ratings game during the traditional Magpasikat week last October 20-25, 2014, where the hosts themselves compete to showcase their own highly engaging world class performances all for the happiness of its viewers fondly known as the madlang pipol, is a strong statement that it is the new number one noontime show in Philippine television today. Believe it or not, this show is one of the reasons why I enjoy watching shows on free TV.

Who would have thought that the show with a purpose of making people happy would make it this far? I have witnessed the trials and success of the show from day one. I also witnessed its transition from a morning show that showcased the best of Philippine talent to a noontime show that showcased the best of what Filipinos can do beyond their individuality.

I have learned a lot from this show, and I would like to thank it for the fun and enjoyable experience through the years. In celebration of its 5th year anniversary, here are some serious facts that you want to know about the show that changed what I have believed in about Philippine free TV.

1. It's Showtime was widely accepted by many Philippine TV viewers when it began as a morning show on October 24, 2009. But on January 11, 2010, the show was suspended after its sole controversy regarding one of its judges commenting against teachers. It returned to television of February 1 after the Court of Appeals issued a Temporary Restraining Order on the suspension made by the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB).

2. It's Showtime made its first and only live show outside ABS-CBN in Cebu last February 1-6, 2010. The show also made some foreign tours in North America through the years since 2011.

3. The Season 1 Grand Finals was one of the highest-rating TV shows of 2010. It registered an average national TV rating of 35% according to Kantar Media. Thus, it became one of the successful pre-noontime shows in Philippine television today.

4. When Showtime moved to noontime on February 2012, it slowly exceeded expectations from many including myself that it will be a force to be reckoned with. And it was proven during its Anniversary Week last October 2012.

5. Aside from the viral trends that were originally popularized in the show, its groundbreaking segments are the main reasons behind the show's success as a noontime show. It all started with Kalokalike and That's My Tomboy in 2013, followed by Mini Me and currently PinaSikat.

As the show begins its 6th year in Philippine television, I would like to say that I have enjoyed every single bit of watching the program. I hope it will continue to turn the viewers' frown upside down. Well, I would leave you with the three performances that won in this year's Magpasikat Week. Enjoy!!
