It seems that RPN 9 has brought home what is considered to be one of the biggest and possibly the most significant prizes in the history of Philippine television today. Starting January 2015, channel 9 on free TV will now be officially known as CNN Philippines. Really? How come?



Well, it is an evident fact that channel 9 has definitely found its true calling after transitioning itself from being a general entertainment channel to become a full-pledged news and information channel last year. But there is no doubt that CNN Philippines on channel 9 will be the third local CNN channel in Asia next to CNN Indonesia and CNN-IBN in India. With this new partnership, CNN Philippines will bring the best of two different worlds to Philippine viewers on both free and pay TV - the global storytelling and credible style of international news reporting of CNN and the local perspective of Nine Media Corporation and 9News in delivering the freshest news stories from around the country.

Forget the Shakey's V-League and the unconventional movie blocks on the so-called number one news channel in the Philippines GMA News TV and Aksyon TV's repetitive airing of various information programs, for these are nothing compared to what CNN Philippines has to offer. It is because CNN Philippines will remain the only English language news and information channel on Philippine free TV. Furthermore, various programming content to be aired on the new channel 9 will be beefed up by 9News and CNN International.
