The Philippine TV airing of "Himig Handog P-Pop Love Songs 2014" on ABS-CBN won the hearts of many Filipinos who are watching on their tubes at the late night of September 28, 2014. It garnered a national TV rating of 4.7% according to Kantar Media, which is a very slight advantage against GMA's boring sports documentary series MP Featuring Sport Science. We just saw the song "Mahal Ko o Mahal Ako" that was interpreted by X-Factor Philippines grand winner KZ Tandingan winning the said songwriting competition. It just goes to show that Philippine music is still alive and well because of songwriting competitions like this.
Wait, Himig Handog is a songwriting competition? Well, yes. In fact, this is the sixth edition of the Philippines' first interactive songwriting competition. When it was launched in 2000 by the Philippines' true number one television station, it was dedicated to the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).
