Taking on the Best of 2014 in Video Games

2014 has been an ecstatic year for video games, as today's next-generation consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One has shown their best gaming lineup suitable for everyone while those who use mobile devices were thrilled for the games released for several mobile operating systems, more particularly on Google's Android and Apple's iOS.

But I would like to take this time to have my own take on the three games that make 2014 an exciting year in the gaming industry. I am talking about the PS4 version of Grand Theft Auto V, Super Smash Brothers for the Nintendo Wii U, and the breakthrough game Destiny.

Grand Theft Auto V was the biggest thing to hit 2013 in the world of video games when it was released for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. And the PlayStation 4 version of the game was not a disappointment. Graphics-wise, it is more beautiful than the PS3 because of the added graphical elements infused in the game. Not only that, the said next-gen version has added features that make consumers ecstatic and excited about buying the game. This include on-foot first person view, upgraded weather effects, and the addition of new wildlife and vegatation among others. No wonder this is the best game of 2014, like its predecessor version.

The fifth installment of the best non-traditional fighting game franchise in the industry did not make loyal fans cry, as it adds features and elements that are exclusive to Nintendo's next-gen console Wii U. Aside from the high-definition graphics and new characters, perhaps the game's best feature is that you could play up to 8 players simultaneously through a special mode. It is like you are battling against not only your friends, but also your brothers and sisters, in a game featuring the best characters in the video game world. I credited this game for being the fastest-selling Wii U game in the US, putting the console back on track. This is a true testament to the franchise's 15th year anniversary celebration.

Now I haven't reviewed this breakthrough game from Bungie Studios since I watched its review on the popular Australian video game magazine show Good Game, but I will tell you that this game is as amazing as the Halo series. Why did I call this a breakthrough game? This is because it has incorporated many elements set in a fictional mythical environment. Being called a "shared-world shooter" may be a different term for those who are playing this game, but the combination of three video game genres is what makes this game a true breakthrough spiritually. I am talking about Destiny as an FPS game with RPG and MMO elements in it. And that's a fact!!

Little did you know, I have complemented my own takes on these video games with video reviews from different gaming critics uploaded on Youtube. But that does not mean that I will not use them again for 2015. But still, this will be a great reminder for those who are keen into video games what these games are all about.
