Revisiting What TV5 Did Last Year

In September 2013, under the guidance of its new president Noel Lorenzana, TV5 has started relaunching itself by having a weekend primetime block filled with entertaining and engaging shows, known as the Weekend Do It Better block. This is what the network did first last year to reassert itself as the fastest-growing network in the country. And that does not stop there.

A month after that, TV5 launched its own weeknight primetime block Everyday All the Way, as well as a weekly series of information programs named the KBO (Karunungan, Balita at Opinyon) block. Since then, many Filipinos have consider TV5 as an alternative for those who want to move away from the tradition of watching heavy local dramas at nights. It has been there since it was rebranded back in 2010.

Through the months, of all the programs that were aired on the network since September of last year, only a few remain standing considering that they are successful in their own right. In the weekends, only Tropa Mo Ko Unli (now known as Tropa Mo Ko, Nice Di Ba?), Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?, and Wow Mali Pa Rin are still airing. On the other hand, some of the network's engaging programs have make waves last year and returned on their new timeslots, namely Face the People and Let's Ask Pilipinas. The rest of the shows have been discontinued due to low ratings despite being trending on social media.

The network decided to de-emphasize both primetime blocks last February of this year, knowing that many of its shows did not fare well in television ratings. Still, only the PBA is considered to be a top-rater among all the primetime shows aired on TV5. But, if you think that the network failed in its primetime bid once again, then think again.

What happened last year is just the beginning of things to come for TV5 as still the number three television station in the Philippines. In fact, I can see that the network is doing well when it comes to its programming grid. And I think that the network will continue to do so in the coming months. Be well!!
